A Note from the Rabbi
The Young Professional community within Beth Jacob has enriched the lives of so many, especially my own!
I am so proud to lead our ever growing young professional community on our shared journey of learning, growing, and engaging the world around us through our Judaism and Torah values. I love the warm and welcoming environment fostered at our Shabbat morning minyan, Friday Night Inspires, Torah Classes, and Social Events. At the Young Professionals we have adopted the motto, “When you are here, you are family”!
— Rabbi Robbie
shabbat Morning Minyan
On Shabbat morning, Beth Jacob is the place to be for a young professional. With a large, vibrant crowd, an uplifting davening and a tasty Kiddush, our YP Minyan brings together young Jewish adults to create a beautiful sense of community. See your friends, make new ones and enjoy the friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Pray and grow with us at our Young Professional Minyan which takes place in Rubin Hall Shabbat morning at 9:30 am prompt. If you have any questions or would like to get more involved in the yp community email Rabbi Robbie Tombosky at yp@bethjacob.org.
Shabbat Programming
friday night dinners
Dedicated by Alan & Barbara Gindi
The Young Professionals Friday Night Dinner’s at Beth Jacob are the talk of the town! The dinners are hosted 3 times annually, and are attended by over 150 Young professionals in their 20’s and 30’s. The night begins with uplifting davening followed by cocktails giving our attendees the opportunity to get to know one another in a relaxed setting. We often invite thought provoking guest speakers including young Israel advocates, psychotherapists discussing today’s dating issues, and famous Jewish celebrities sharing stories from their unique journeys. While Beth Jacob is a Modern Orthodox synagogue, adhering to all the Shabbat observances and dietary laws, the dinner is open to those of all levels of observance. The dinners attract both singles and couples, and many couples who have met at our dinners are happily married today. As with all our programming — when you are here, you’re family!
Friday Night Inspire
Friday Night Inspire brings Beth Jacob to you! The Young Professionals Friday Night Inspire is a warm and inviting Kabbalat Shabbat with an uplifting Carlebach-style davening and singing. Inspire is held in members’ apartments, homes and backyards and Kabbalat Shabbat is followed by a Kiddush and Shmooze.
FRIDAY NIGHT ONEG
When Shabbat comes in early, you'll have the opportunity to stay up late for an after dinner evening Oneg celebrating Shabbat! Mix, mingle and be merry with other YPs and enjoy an uplifting kumzits with singing, inspiration & a beautiful dessert spread.
OPEN DOOR: MEANINGFUL SHABBAT ENGAGEMENT
As a leading force in young professional engagement, Beth Jacob has over 500 young professionals who currently participate in our YP program. We know many of you are new to Los Angeles and sometimes find yourselves spending Shabbat meals alone. Open Door is your opportunity to join a warm and caring Beth Jacob family at their home for a Shabbat meal. After all, what better way to build relationships and become part of a community than around the Shabbat table!
